Biography: -Sleep On It-
In the vexing waves of today where media culture is trying desperately to regurgitate the Michael Jacksons and the Nirvanas, there is one band that stayed true to themselves. This group will sound foreign in the ears of recent music genres, but still remain a splash of familiar tones, plus a little more. Driven by multi-cultural background of each member, these guys breed a touch that connects the earth to sky, day to night, and wrong to right.
The band -Sleep On It- was born out of Tim Hatayama (lead vocals/guitar), Jason "Cuban" Marcus (drums/vocals), Mark Knox (guitar/vocals), and Dave Mattingly (bass/vocals) in late fall of 2000 at Purdue University, IN. The humble beginning originated with an unplugged vision of two acoustic guitars and a set of cheap bongos, yet through time and tribulations they eventually sized up to an electrified repertoire. After summer of 2001, Mattingly sought after other plans, Knox graduated from college and moved; but later Adam Gibson (guitar/vocals) and Matt Kreager (bass) entered as the new addition. With their relentless DIY attitude, -SOI- did everything themselves: from their self-promotion, managing/booking, all the way to their studio recordings. They also began, organized, and hosted an open-mic night called "Amateuration: Maturation of Amateurs" that allowed a creative outlet for the public masses. The group progressed immensely by gigging primarily around Indiana, in local bars/clubs, frat parties, and coffee shops; while creating a buzz around the area. The band already has released four singles, and used them as promotional copies to draw fresh fans and land new gigs. Now -Sleep On It- is ready to make a splash in the water with their upcoming self-titled EP....
"It comes pretty naturalthe fact that [they] are all from different places like Hatayama born in Japan and growing up in Taiwan, 'Cuban' born in Germany and moved around [his] whole lifehearing what was going on in terms of music around those regionsa pretty eclectic mix of musictend to look for a new sound." ----Journal and Courier newspaper, Lafayette, IN
"This band is original in their own right...[it's] hard pressed to describe them...on stage are two guitarists (acoustic and electric). Both guitarists work well together, using lofty chords, and came with a super thick sound. This band again sounds like themselves...check 'em out when ya get a chance!" ----Emmett, aka "E", www.lafayettemusic.net
Ultimately, reach the unreachables, Touch the untouchables, And move the immovables In search of a greater alternative from the subordinary and prosaic norms that we are so prone to be caged in: sleep on it, 'cuz tomorrow may bring a brighter view a lighter note a higher soul See, we will never know We'll never know 'til tomorrow. -Sleep On It-
